300,000 Discovery Kids Lamps Recalled

Written by Ankin Law Office

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced last week the recall of approximately 300,000 Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari Lamps imported by Innovage. The products have been recalled due to fire and burn hazards. According to the CPSC, the product’s importer, Innovage, has received 11 reports of short circuiting, including three reports of the lamps catching fire. No injuries have been reported, however.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled Discovery Kids lamps and reminded that it is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

The recalled Discovery Kids Animated Marine and Safari Lamps feature rotating films with marine or safari scenes. The words “Discovery Kids” are printed on the front top-left corner of the product. The recalled products have both an 11-digit batch number that begins with either 584894 or 10128 and a model number of 1628626, 1642433, 1641522, 1641523, 1645729, or 1645853. Batch numbers can be found imprinted in the plastic underneath the lamps and on the bottom of the packaging. Model numbers can be found on stickers placed underneath the lamps and on the bottom of the packaging near the barcode.

The recalled products were sold at Bed Bath & Beyond, Bonton, JCPenney, Kohls, Office Max and Toys “R” Us stores nationwide, as well as via the online retailers Amazon, Ideeli, JCPenney, Kohls, Macy’s and Overstock from June 2010 through March 2012 for between $10 and $20.

Consumers should immediately stop using this product immediately. Consumers can obtain information on how to obtain a full refund by contacting Innovage at (888) 232-1535 (between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT Monday through Friday), by visiting the company’s website at,, or by emailing the company at [email protected]
