SummaryGrowing up in Chicago and Northwest Indiana, Melody Gomez was born in and lived much of her childhood in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Her upbringing in a working class family allows her to connect with her clients on a personal level and to better understand their challenges and concerns.
Melody’s parents emigrated from Mexico to Chicago and opened a small tire and wheel business. Melody’s parents worked hard to grow their business and put Melody and her brother through school. It is from these humble beginnings that Melody is able to appreciate the shared value of hard work and determination of Chicago’s working class families.
As Melody’s parents are first-generation immigrants, Melody has a personal understanding and attachment to the Latin American community. Melody speaks fluent Spanish, a skill that many clients for whom English is a second language find helpful and welcoming. Because she can understand the culture and background of her clients, as well as speak their language, Melody earns a level of trust from her clients that is second to none.
No stranger to hard work, Melody understands the importance of a hard-earned dollar. While she was studying to earn her college and law school degrees, she worked various jobs to earn the money to pay for her education, yet still managed to make the Dean’s List and graduated magna cum laude from Loyola University Chicago.
It is because of her hard work ethic that clients look to her for help with their personal injury claims. Clients know that she will work tirelessly to get them the compensation that they need and deserve.
Melody maintains the strong ties and personal connections to Chicago, and the Englewood neighborhood in particular. She has been a tutor for the Chicago Public Schools Alternative Program, helping disadvantaged teens prepare for the GED test. Through this program, Melody was able to connect with many of the students because of their shared backgrounds and cultural ties.
Melody interned for the Cook County Public Defender and the Office of the Prosecuting Attorney of Lake County, Indiana, before Howard Ankin personally asked her to join the Ankin Law Office in her first year of law school as a law clerk. By the beginning of her final year of law school, the firm had begun to make plans for Melody to join the firm as a lawyer upon graduation. Today she maintains an active caseload concentrating exclusively in personal injury matters. Clients, doctors and fellow lawyers all comment on what a great asset Melody is to the firm.
In her free time, Melody enjoys exercising (having been a fitness instructor since she was 19), snowboarding, and spending time with family and her pit bulls.
