The mission statement for Illinois Holocaust Museum is to “Remember the Past” and “Transform the Future” and to preserve the legacy of the Holocaust by honoring the memories of those who were lost and by teaching universal lessons that combat hatred, prejudice and indifference. The museum originated after a group of neo-Nazis attempted to march in Skokie, Illinois. The survivors of the Holocaust decided to take action by creating a small store front exhibition.
